Turin Turambar, mightiest mortal warrior of the First Age and probably my favorite Tolkien character.  Aside from maybe Beren and his lineage, no human ever caused as much trouble for the forces of evil as Turin in those days (though admittedly he caused a lot of trouble for his allies).  I’ve got a soft spot for those tragic cursed warriors just trying to make things right.
Depictions of Turin and the dragon Glaurung are common in Tolkien art, and it’s hard to do something new, especially with his famed helmet, the Dragon-helm of Dor-lomin.  It’s usually depicted in a Hellenistic style with a little dragon on top, but in the text it’s said the helmet was supposed to be terrifying, especially to orcs and the like.  With this in mind I went with something more fearsome, along with some armor to match.
This image is actually for a project I can’t quite talk about yet, but you’ll hear more about it soon!

Scandinavia’s Sami Reindeer Herders

The Sami people, also spelled Sámi or Saami, are the Arctic indigenous people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses parts of far northern Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Kola Peninsula of Russia, and the border area between south and middle Sweden and Norway. Sami herders call their work boazovázzi, which translates as “reindeer walker,” and that’s exactly what herders once did, following the fast-paced animals on foot or wooden skis as they sought out the best grazing grounds over hundreds of miles of terrain. Times have changed. Herders are now assigned to specific parcels of the reindeer’s traditional grazing territories at designated times of the year.

Oh my gosh they’re really cute!

Nothing too exciting…but a Kotetsu sketch again. He has to be one of my fav animated characters in recent memory. But after this I reeallly need to get off my fanart kick….
But seriously, if they don’t show Tiger & Bunny on this new Toonami at some point…I’ll be all sad and such. I miss my superhero anime cheesefest.

25 abandoned Yugoslavia monuments that look like they’re from the future

“These structures were commissioned by former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito in the 1960s and 70s to commemorate sites where WWII battles took place or where concentration camps stood. They were designed by different sculptors and architects, conveying powerful visual impact to show the confidence and strength of the Socialist Republic. In the 1980s, these monuments attracted millions of visitors per year, especially young pioneers for their ‘patriotic education.’ After the Republic dissolved in early 1990s, they were completely abandoned, and their symbolic meanings were forever lost. From 2006 to 2009, Kempenaers toured around the ex-Yugoslavia region with the help of a 1975 map of memorials, bringing before our eyes a series of melancholy yet striking images.”
